Malham Crack
My studio practice revolves around landscape and includes painting, printmaking and collage. Recent works have responded to visual disruptions in the landscape or human-made interventions in nature. Using images from old art books, found paintings and vintage postcards the collages often allude to a wounded landscape. Malham Crack has three elements - part of a found Victorian painting, a photograph from a book, and a detail of an abstract painting - although the origin of the work comes from a sketchbook drawing of mine from years ago. Whilst appearing quite simple, the collage has taken time to resolve. It evokes, I hope, a sense of nature's vulnerability, particularly now.
