Super-Duper Objects
This collection of vessels is an expansion on the Super-Duper Objects in my current show at the Salford Art Gallery.
Super-Duper Objects considers the work of the theorist Louise Mazanti who suggested the term, 'Super Object' to describe objects which sat in the conceptual place between design, craft and Fine Art.
Super-Duper Objects bear the hand of the maker both in their construction and in their final aesthetic. They have autobiographical elements in the mixed media additions. Padlocks and keys, bike chains, ropes and other incongruous materials. They are fun, impractical, non-functional and engaging, loaded with elements of decoration and kitsch.
