Lokaj
Andy Smith

26-28th July 2019

Andy Smith explores meaning and identity through icons, iconography and iconoclasm through a continuous series of works-in-progress.

Lokaj is the Esperanto plural for 'local'. In the digital age, anyone can be a global artist. Co- creating ideas, meaning and identity could be the new-age alternative to didactic teaching and learning.Joseph Beuys said that 'Every human being is an artist, a freedom being, called to participate in
transforming and reshaping the conditions, thinking and structures that shape and inform our lives'.

Andy specialises in short-term pop-up shows to allow for a focussed public engagement element to exhibitions, and will be in the gallery daily from 11am to 4pm.

'Coming from a Community Art background before studying Fine Art, I think my practice is hard-wired to develop alongside others at certain points in the process. As a consequence, the 'art object' is rarely resolved, existing as a modest, transient bi-product of thought and action'.
