Textured Expression
A Solo Exhibition by Jasmine Bevan
"Textured Expression" is a tactile and emotional exploration of how we experience feelings—not just through facial expressions or gestures, but through texture, colour, and material. This exhibition centres on tufting as the primary medium, supported by select paintings and ceramic works, all created to evoke a sensory response.
At its core, this show asks a simple yet profound question: What does emotion feel like, beyond the surface? Through carefully selected colours and varying materials, each piece challenges the idea that emotions must always appear a certain way. Happiness doesn’t always feel light. Sadness can still be soft, warm, and even beautiful.
The use of tufting—its softness, density, and inviting surface—is a deliberate choice. These works are meant to be felt as much as seen. I want the viewer to connect physically and emotionally, to be drawn into the textures that express what words sometimes can’t.
This is the proudest I’ve ever been of a body of work. Textured Expression marks a turning point in my practice, showing not only my deepening relationship with tufting as a medium, but also my growth in using it to communicate honestly and vulnerably.
I invite you to experience the pieces not just with your eyes, but with your whole self
